A SURVIVAL WEBSITE FOR LIFE

SURVIVAL TRANSPORTATION

Jeep Wrangler Unlimited — We realize Jeeps may not be the most prudent vehicle to have for day to day commuting, but you are on a survival website! Having numerous jeeps over the years our family has always found a way to incorporate them into our lives. They are perhaps one of best survival vehicles and people have utilized them for decades.

Having legendary four wheel drive capabilities, the Jeep Unlimited now offers more space for family, gear, and equipment. We have started to see a shift of people using the new Unlimited style jeeps for camping, as a make shift pickup, and plow vehicle.

Engines when submerged in water have a tendency to grenade meaning the sides blow out because water has been sucked through the intake. Those funky looking snorkels (shown above) allow the Jeeps to forge ridiculous amounts of water since the air intake is over the top of the windshield. While we do not recommend forging any deep water unless you have to, it is comforting to know you have the right vehicle for the job.

Jeeps are also modular so you add, or tow whatever you want if the SHTF. We picked this particular vehicle because it can be used for day to day life and has proven itself as a reliable family hauler. As the diesel options become more affordable we would recommend a Jeep Unlimited with a snorkel, and diesel motor.

We also promise rock star status if you break out a tent like the one shown, and neighbors from all over will come over to drink your survival vodka!

DIESEL POWER — In the scenario of a disaster many things will be spinning violently out of control. Perhaps one of the first critical resources to be depleted is gasoline and power.

The lack of gasoline would prevent conventional gasoline powered vehicles to essentially stop in their tracks. With power outages and abandoned homes to be expected, survivalists can at least salvage their home heating oil for fuel in their diesel transportation.

Having a four wheel drive diesel vehicle with a snorkel is the best case scenario for most regions, but individuals have to factor in daily life as we know it and find a balance that suits their comfort level.

Military M715 or Bobbed Duece — If your comfort level brings you to the big leagues and you have the cash, a military vehicle might just get you through a disaster. There are a number of companies that sell surplus military vehicles and / or modify vehicles to fit the customers needs.

The Bobbed Duece can be found at http://www.100dollarman.com/trucks.html. and military style M715 and other types are found all over the web with a quick search.

2. Rokon Trailbreaker — Growing up in the woods we have come to love all types of vehicles as long as they have knobby tires. The one that gets the most street credit for survival characteristics is the Rokon Trailbreaker.

The Trailbreaker is a two-wheel drive motorcycle and has been around for decades. It is not widely known as many other brands because it is labeled more of a mountain goat with its go anywhere capabilities and lacks the speedy setup most recreation junkies crave. It can be found in the National Parks, as a rescue vehicle for Police, Fire, and EMS, and on the extreme trails that most other vehicle stop.

Where it lacks speed it makes up in utility. Just do a Google search for Rokon, and then stop over to youtube.com and search for Rokon. You will see some of the most amazing terrains tackled with ease. In fact this little bike can float, drive in snow, put out fires if a hose is attached to the PTO, drag large animals, and has over 50 attachments.

The best part is it can be loaded on the back of an SUV in minutes and weighs less than 200lbs.

Zodiac Medline III

3. Zodiac Medline III — If we ever have to take to the water in a smaller boat for survival purposes, I want it to be a Zodiac. There is a reason Navy Seals, Coast Guard, Rescue personnel, and adventure junkies can be found dominating the water in them.

Of the Zodiac family we like the Futura 3 (loosely based on the platform of the small Navy Seal boats), the Medline III (shown above), and pretty much anything that has the name Zodiac on the side. The Medline III has a stove, bathroom below, and host of amenities for up to seven people. Having been in the business for over 50 years Zodiac has even given the Medline its official unsinkable stamp, which means a great deal in world that is made up mostly of water.

As scary as it might seem if you live on a small island the safest place during a Tsunami might actually be the ocean if you know there is no chance of survival on land and you can safely get away from the ocean shelf (when Tsunami’s hit the shelf it forces the water to stand up causing the large waves). In fact recent Tsunami survivors that were out scuba diving didn’t realize anything happened until they returned because they were away from the shelf and the boat hardly moved.

Here is a little teaser to show you just how serious Zodiac boats are tested. With the bravado of their reputation Zodiac has earned the right to thumb their noses at most other manufacturers!

Montague Paratrooper — This bike folds in about 30 seconds and can thrown in a trunk of a car, on a subway, boat, or plane. And when you are ready to get out of that plane just throw your bike out on a parachute. That’s exactly what this bike was designed to do for Paratroopers (hence the name of the bike), and it can be used for daily treks as well.

The one addition we would make is having run flat tires, but other than that we own and love the bike. If someone were to knock on our front door and say an evacuation was necessary in less than five minutes I would not think twice about grabbing the bike in the event it could be utilized down the road.

My brother was in New York City at the time of the World Trade Center attacks, and a bike like this could have come in handy to help him navigate his way to the hospital where he gave blood. He was fortunate enough to have walked away from the incident, but it struck a chord with our family and triggered a great deal of discussion about surviving in the city.

The home page of Montague’s website does an excellent job of showing the bike being folded, so enjoy http://www.montaguebikes.com/

More coming soon.
