Rinker writes: “Choose the Captiva 232 Bowrider and you are in good company. Thousands of families have chosen a new Captiva 232 for its room, ease of maintenance and deep-sea performance hull. The Captiva 232 hull outperforms flatter and more shallow hulls and is often chosen instead of a deck boat. Its 20 degree deadrise and 4,000-plus pound weight gives Rinker owners a solid and stable choice for all their boating activities. From sunset cruises to sunrise slalom runs, Get Real, choose the Captiva 232 Bowrider.”

“Exciting, yet reliable. Powerful, yet efficient. Responsive, yet stable. Roomy, yet compact. Open, yet enclosed storage abounds. Luxurious and well-appointed, yet priced to be an outstanding value. Get in, start the engine, push the throttle, and become yet another delighted 232 Captiva Owner!”

Captain’s Report

“The Captiva 232 Bowrider maximizes interior space and does a great job of delivering the room of a much larger bowrider. Interior freeboard is high enough to be safe for the little ones to run around without fear of them easily taking a header into the water before you can grab their collar.

This year Rinker has gone to a rich Omnova vinyl on all the seating and uses a silver and beige twisted pile carpet for a comfortable floor even on a hot day. Also new for 2005 are Easy Rider bucket seats by Atwood with spring suspension for comfort underway as well as an armrest built into the side so the driver can keep a hand on the throttle without fatiguing their arm in the process.

Comfortable Layout – Bow seating wraps from the helm and on around to the companion side. Lounger backs are built into the front of the helm and companion pods so two can stretch out and relax up front. Under the peak seat is storage for the anchor and rode. Two rubber clips hold a Danforth style anchor tight so you don’t have to listen to the rattle underway. The wraparound windshield has a nice walkthrough with large rubber bumpers to protect the hull when it is open.

At the Controls – A door on the side of the helm pod gives you access to this storage space and is the typical location to mount a stereo booster and CD changer system. The helm has Faria gauges with bright metal bezels and back lighting for night viewing. All electronics are protected by circuit breakers and you have a 12 volt socket to keep the cell phone and other portable gear charged up. I found the slight elevation built into the floor under the bucket seats a slight distraction when moving around in the cockpit.

Cockpit – Over on the companion side, you have a tray built into the top along with a covered glove box. The companion pod has space inside for storing the table as well as enough room to change or house a porta-potti.

In the floor between the helm and companion pod is a large storage space for long skis, wakeboards and other gear. Behind the companion seat is a station with a covered removable trash bin, cup holder and a seat with wraparound comfortable back. The bench seating in the cockpit is abundant and wraps all the way to the port side walkthrough.

The sun pad offers enough room for two to hang out, and it also doubles as the cover for the engine. Bright LED lights are used in the cockpit for night lights and two are in the engine space to light this area up. I found there to be sufficient room to reach the typical maintenance points on the engine.

Our test boat had the extended swim platform attached which really makes this area fun. A three-step boarding ladder and a swim shower supported by a ten gallon water tank are also back here.

Specs — Rinker’s Captiva 232 Bowrider measures in at 23’6” length overall with a beam width of 8’6”. She weighs about 4,100 pounds dry and only needs about 5 feet of overhead bridge clearance. Her draft is 22” with the outdrive up, and 36” with the outdrive in the lower position.

The 232 BR has a standard power plant selection of either a MerCruiser 5.0L 260-hp MPI with Alpha drive or a Volvo Penta 5.0 GXi SX drive with 270-hp. You can choose between three optional MerCruiser and three Volvo sterndrives up to 320-hp.

Handling and Performance – We tested the Rinker Captiva 232 Bowrider on a fresh water lake in Indiana with two people on board and 1/3rd of a tank of fuel. Our test model was powered by a MerCruiser 300-hp 350 Mag MPI with Bravo III outdrive and 26” props. Winds were 10mph with a one foot chop and the temperature was comfortable at 70 degrees. The Captiva 232 cruised most economically around 3000rpm traveling 27.4mph. At this speed the boat has a fuel burn of 7.6gph and you can expect to get about 243 miles on a tank of fuel.

Top speed was achieved at 5000rpm at wide-open-throttle and going 51.4mph. You can expect to get about 162 miles on a full tank of fuel.

The 232 accelerated very well into turns without sliding through them and felt genuinely in control at all speeds. I also found she was easy to pull in and out of a slip, even in a strong breeze.

The Captiva 232 is a great boat to step up to when you find your family has grown or you need more room than your smaller bowrider can deliver. It has plenty of seating and the added amenities most will find makes this boat comfortable for a full day of fun in the sun“.
