Hello everyone.

This is my first post on the board and wanted to thank everyone in advance for the help. I ve been reading through the forums, getting information and details, great forum

My wife and I are looking at getting our first boat, and possibly one that we will keep for a long time. With that said, we are looking to get a boat that is large enough to grow with our family and I m trying to find the right Boat that we can keep and not have to upgrade in a few years. We currently have 1 young child and could add to that in a few years, so we want to take all of that into account with our purchase.

We have been to a few boat shows as I started looking last year and we are getting serious for a purchase this winter/spring. We have narrowed our choices down to either a Chaparral or Regal boat based on features, quality, reputation etc.

Here are the boats we are considering:

2008 or newer Sunesta 224- I ve found some good deals on some 2010 224s, but with the 5.0 270hp DP engines. I d like to try and get the 5.7 DP option if possible if we go with the 224, but wanted some opinions on the 5.0 DP option. Most of our boating will be lake conditions, 6-8 people usually with small kids, tubing, waterskiing and wakeboarding. Also anchoring at the local sandbar, etc.

2008 or newer Sunesta 224 Extreme- I have found a really nice 224 Extreme on Boat trader at a price that seems pretty reasonable considering it s fully loaded, with a custom trailer. The deer needed to buy this boat new makes the slightly used Extreme option very appealing. However, I have some concerns on towing with the WB Tower, I believe only the Arch folds down? Not a huge concern, but we will be towing it long distances at times.

Regal 2100

2007 or newer 236 SSX- I ve found some nice 2008-2009 slightly used models here, mostly with the 350/300hp B3 options. My wife ranks the SSX the lowest on her list, but still an option.

2010-2011 Regal 2100- I know this is a smaller boat than the Chap 224s, but I love the look of the 2100/2300s and my wife likes the seating layout, as it doesn t have a sink. The 2100 can be optioned with the 5.7 motor but only with a single prop 300hp. Also, the 2100/2300 Regals don t have the porta pottie option at all, not sure how much this is needed, although with small kids riding on the boat. I really like the idea of the power folding Arch on the 2100/2300 models here.

2010-2011 Regal 2300- I know this is really a 24 boat, but I d say almost a foot of it, is the extended rear swim platform that is bolted onto the transom. I like the rear of the Chap 224s better, but the 2300 has a ton of room with the Arena seating option. Biggest motor options here are the 5.7 DP engines, so comparable to the 224. However, no porta pottie option at all on this boat, but a huge amount of seating.

I m pretty torn between the 2 models, as I go back and forth every day on which one I like the best. I did see a nice comparison from the Chap dealer between the 224 and the Regal Fasdeck 2220 which illustrated a lot of the little things that separated the Chap from the Regal.

I d like to get opinions, thoughts etc on our boat buying options. My preference right now, would be a slightly used 224 (even Extreme), but my wife prefers the Regal layouts and is on the practical side for the Regal 2100 for the cheaper Deer. My big concern is that the 2100 might not be a large enough boat and would require an upgrade down the road. I also don t like the fact that I can t get the DP option on the 2100 model.

Thanks in advance for the long winded post
