2010 AMA Motocross Unadilla Results

Ryan Dungey once again went 1-1 to take his eighth overall win on the classic Unadilla track.

450 Motocross

In the first contest for the 450s Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey took the early lead after grabbing the holeshot out of the first sweeping turn. Behind Dungey Belgian rider Clement Desalle put in an impressive ride after laying down some of the fastest laps. Honda Red Bull’s Kevin Windham had a short race after suffering a hard crash in the opening laps. Meanwhile, San Manuel’s James Stewart got a decent start back in fourth and made quick work of Short to move into the number three position. While riding very aggressively Stewart made it around Desalle with a block pass, but by then Dungey had setup a substantial lead ahead of the field. Towards the end a determined Desalle came back and re-gained second-place from Stewart. Dungey once again took the checkers, with Desalle following in second. Rounding out the podium in third was Stewart, who had an impressive race after being absent for such a long time.

450 racing action continued in New Berlin, New York with none other than Short getting the holeshot in Moto 2. Unlike his first moto, Stewart was off to a rocky start in the second race back in 15th behind Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Nick Wey. After

James Stewart’s return to the national circuit didn’t go as well as many had expected. In the second moto JS7 pulled out of the race after struggling in the middle of the pack.

a few laps of struggling and falling backward in the pack Stewart called it quits and retired from the race. Up front JGR Yamaha’s Justin Brayton quickly shot into the lead ahead of Short, with Dungey closely lurking behind in third. Unwilling to let Brayton’s pass stick, Short came back with a pass for the lead, and quickly after Dungey successfully made a pass on Brayton for second. Halfway into the moto there was some intense dueling action as Dungey battled Desalle for the lead. On Lap 9 Desalle crumbled under Dungey’s constant pressure, and from then on the championship leader was uninterrupted as he cemented his eighth overall win of the ’10 season. Desalle took second with two second-place finishes, followed by Geico Powersports Honda rider Brett Metcalfe in third with a 5-3 score.

My day was really good. I made the podium; I also didn’t crash today, said the Belgian Rockstar stand-in Desalle. It’s always fun to be on a nice track like that, and I’m really happy about that. When asked if he has any intention of coming to race in the States permanently, Desalle replied, Yeah sure, I would like to do it. It is something I keep thinking. I would love to do it, but we will see.

I had to do a lot of work today. My starts weren’t that good, said Metcalfe about his come from behind podium. Today we were getting around the top five or sixth place, and then I had to work up from there. It wasn’t a whole lot of fun taking that roost from everybody, but I just kind of made it happen.

It’s always good to get a holeshot, said Dungey about his first moto start. Andrew has been pulling them off a lot here lately. I was able to get off to a good start and put my self in the position to lead the laps.
