Deck layout

The salon opens to a covered aft deck which has ample room for 4 — 6 teak chairs and a table. The covered side decks lead forward with a solid bulwark, teak cap rail and teak safety rail providing safety and securitiy. One of the great features of the newer 42s is the molded in staircase vs a ladder leading to the flying bridge. Under the steps is a locker for storage. The top of the staircase is fitted with a sliding hatch to minimize the ingress of inclement weather. The flying bridge is another very gracious entertainment area featuring the optional L-settee with storage below and optional teak grate table mounted on a pedestal. Forward are the standard fore and aft facing bench seats with storage under.

Aft of the entertainment area on the flying bridge is ample space for the dinghy chocks which have been fitted to stow the tender. Launching and hauling the tender is a simple matter with the 2 Lewmar winches mounted on the mast and boom.

Accommodations

As comfortable an interior as one can find in a cruising yacht of this nature. A wonderfully bright salon opens thru double sliding doors to the aft deck, in effect expanding the salon and bringing the outdoors in. Fully varnished teak interior with varnished teak parquet soles. Superb natural light and ventilation with the salon/galley/helm area surrounded by windows, many of which are sliders. Below there are sliding windows and hatches with screens in each of the staterooms and heads. Artificial light is equally abundant with swivel style polished chrome reading lamps at all berths and settees as well as several overhead lights. Two reverse cycle A/C units provide sufficient heating and cooling through a wide range of temperatures.

Starting forward and below is the Master Stateroom featuring a V-berth arrangement with filler. This is a very practical arrangement in this yacht and provides for better storage than the island queen arrangement. Below the berth is storage in 4 drawers and 2 drop face lockers while above the berth the hull is lined with varnished teak ceilings PS. Just aft of the port V is a 5 drawer bureau and then a very generous cedar lined hanging locker.

Continuing aft and to port is the Guest Stateroom featuring athwartship twin berths. Below the forward berth there are six drawers with four below the after berth. Between the berth and outboard is a cedar lined hanging locker; there is also a teak book rack shelf above the fwd berth.

Opposite to starboard are the Heads Stall Shower . There is private access from the Master Stateroom to the forward head compartment. The Master Head features a vacu-flush W.C. vanity with Corian Counter top and sink and HC pressure water as well as good storage. The Guest Head duplicates the master head in amenities and the separate stall shower compartment with seat has private access from either head.

The three steps leading to the Salon have storage under them.

At the main deck level one finds the Galley, Salon, Lower Helm Station . The L-shaped galley is to port and features an expanse of corian Counter tops and single basin Corian sink, with HC pressure water. Cabinetry at the fwd end of the L galley, where charts might be in use underway, affords numerous compartments for storage of dishes and much more. The galley is fitted with the optional overhead dish lockers, and there are 4 drawers as well as a number of other lockers for additional storage. Cold food storage is managed via the front loading refrigeration box and a top loading freezer box. Both were retro-fitted, by the second owners in 01′ with Grunert holding plate systems. Cooking is on a 3 burner Princess Propane cooktop with a convection Microwave below.

The Main Salon is next aft and features an L-settee with drop face lockers under and a drawer at the fwd end of the L. The 3 drop face lockers have been fitted with stainless steel trays that slide out to better facilitate getting at gear stored there. At the aft end of the settee is a small bureau with storage and a locker and drawer and above the bureau is a teak book case. Opposite the settee is the entertainment center and 2 barrel chairs. The entertainment center has two shelves for equipment ensconced behind tambour doors. All of the Salon pieces are upholstered in Chamois Ultra Suede. At the inboard foot of the L galley is a locker with 2 shelves for glasses and cups with an open locker designed to house the wine glasses directly above while opposite is a dry bar that features a lift top to access glass and bottle storage, below which is a cabinet housing the ice maker. Dining is at a Grand Banks custom drop leaf Hi/Lo table with clever storage units built into the center.

The Lower Helm Station is forward and to starboard (see electronics for equipment details). The helm is fitted with the optional bench seat below which there is a cabinet with shelves for storage. The starboard side door is adjacent to the helm. The Salon opens onto the aft deck through double sliding doors.
