Weymouth Portland Model Boat Club

We are a model boat club based in Weymouth Portland in Dorset, UK. We have a sailing venue organised for nearly every weekend from Easter to September. Club activities are to maintain and organise sailing waters in the Weymouth area and to promote the hobby of model boats. As such the club attends local shows with static and sailing displays and arranges an annual open day .

Our current sailing venues allow the use of most model boats although some deep keeled yachts may struggle when water levels are low. As is usual none of our venues permit the use of IC propelled boats. The dominant types built and operated by members of the club are sport yachts, competition yachts, scale sailing vessels and scale motor boats.

We have have also begun to run some relaxed club competition. See the competition page for information

Club News

Facebook page I’m going to be trying out using a WPMBC facebook page that I’ve made to post news items. The facebook page is more interactive than the simple news list I started off with. You should be able to see a large box on our home page with a link to the facebook page and the top few posts from Weymouth Portland Model Boat Club. Feel free to post items to the facebook page. Also if you like the page in facebook then you should be able configure e-mail and facebook notifications for updates to the facebook page. If you have trouble working out what to do get in touch and I’ll arrange some instructions. Hopefully with.

Sunburn and Icecream The first may bank holiday sailing at Mangerton Mill saw 2 days of sunshine. Good attendance and plenty of models. A vintage radio yacht, a couple of schooners, plenty of modern yachts, some nice scale tugs, a passenger ferry or 2, an old draw, some fast scale power boats, a couple of battleships and a submarine patrolled the waters at Mangerton. See the gallery page for a few of the many, I was too busy enjoying the sailing to take many photos.

Second Mangerton Mill Sail of the Season Sunday the 21st of April and another successful day sailing Mangerton Mill. Sunny spells kept the worst of the cold breeze at bay. The cold not sending us home until 15:30. The Lilies are still down allowing those with better eyesight to sail round the island.
