Got it John,
When the engine stalls like that, and then restarts, it is an electrical problem, and not fuel related. If it was fuel related, the engine would struggle to start/take many tries to start. Whats happening here is the ignition coil is loosing 12V momentarily, just enough for it to stall out. And there are 4 1/2 key places to look. (the 1/2 will make sense in a minute)
1. Starting with the battery cables. If the battery cables are loose, that will do it every time. Make sure the battery cable connections are clean and tight to the battery. If you have wingnuts on the battery, those will self loosen, so those will go in the trash and you will need stainless steel nylon locknuts. Also, if you have multiple wires stacked on the battery terminals (and i m sure you do, most boats do) The engine cables are always the first ones to go on. Do not stack the main engine cable on top of smaller cables.
2. After that, its the key switch. Make sure the wires on the key switch are clean and tight. Specificially the red/purple wire, which is power into the keyswitch. And purple, which is your ignition power out. If either of those is loose the coil will lose power.

Here is the halfsie, the 1/2. If you have an emergency stop switch. This would be the kill switch with the clip on it. Check the purple wires on that and make sure they are clean and tight. These switches do also go bad. I gave you this one as a 1/2 because not all boats have them. All outboard powered boats do, but on sterndrive powered boats it can be 50/50 as to wether or not you have one.
3. Disconnect the tachometer and run the boat around and see if it makes a difference or not. If the tach is shorting out intermittently, it will shut down the engine.
4. Lastly, check the main cannon plug. This is the big round plug on the engine where the engines harness meets the boats harness. Pull it apart, and make sure there is no corrosion in there, and then reseat the plug. If there is any kind of poor contact within the plug, the engine will shut off.
And, thats it. That is where you stand with this one, and what needs to be done. Obviously I am not there to do this work for you, and I don t know how much of this you can do yourself. But I work for tips so I do want to make sure you are at least happy with me and the answers I give you here before doing the rating. If you have a further question on this, by all means feel free to fire away. If not, please let me know if the ratings box gives you any troubles.
Thanks in advance, and good luck!
