HiLiner 222 Gypsy — same as Bertram Bahia Mar/ Boston Whaler Voyager (Masonboro) $895

OWN A CLASSIC PIECE OF HISTORY!

Listed for sale is a beautiful Ray Hunt design from the early 1970’s with classic lines, beautiful curved transom and a performance hull that has stood the test of time. She has weathered through time but needs work. Asking price of $895 (OBO) includes the hull and 165 hp Mercruiser stern drive; however, DOES NOT include the trailer. Trailer is for sale separately. Original HiLiner side emblems are included, they were removed during cleaning to avoid damage. Original seats and cabin cushions are included for use as templates for re manufacture; however time has not been kind to the vinyl.

Additional photos can be emailed, as well as original sales brochure for this model.

A true beauty that I had all intents of restoring and repowering with new fuel efficient V-6 sterndrive power which would easily put her in the 45 knot range @ WOT, 25 — 30 knot cruise. Alas, time and funding are scarce so she can now be yours!

The HiLiner was designed by C. Raymond Hunt in the 1960’s. Ray Hunt is best known as the designer of the original Boston Whaler. He also designed the Deep Vee racing hull that was originally designed for Bertram (the Moppie) and is now found on most small powerboats intended to be used in open waters. The HiLiner 222 is the 21′ 6 foot version of this hull.

Bertram Bahia Mar

The HiLiner is a great Ray hunt designed hull that is very capable in waters suited for bigger boats. It is pretty similar to his Bertram 20 with the exception of the transom and that it only has two running strakes while the B20 has three. This does no deter the HiLiner at all in the seaway, as she performs like the true thoroughbred she is in rough water. The HiLiners were definitely boats ahead of their time, they do share some of the same traits with the old 20 ft. Bertram Bahia Mars and runabouts. The HiLiner is about 18 longer than a Bertram 20. The main thing the HiLiner and the Bertram have in common is that they’re both ‘official’ Ray Hunt designs rather than rip-offs.

The HiLiner Company sold out to Boston Whaler in the early 1970’s. Their HiLiner-222 boat, a C. Ray Hunt design, was produced by Whaler for a short while. Only about three dozen were made with the Whaler name badge YANKEE VOYAGER. You won’t fing too much difference between the Hiliner and the Voyager, since the molds for both are the same.

Perhaps the greatest tribute to Hunt is the longevity of the deep-vee in a world of change. After 52 years, it’s still a sound, proven hull.
