Ever tried to compare these two models? We are after an older offshore boat in this size range from a tried and true builder. One that is a candidate for repowering. Offshore performance is a must. As a bonus, anyone have experience with the 35 Bertram, which may be too much boat for us (but they are nice). Thanks.

Try the site BERTRAM31.COM. they have a great deal of info regarding the Bertram 31 (obviously) and the 25 s, 28 s and 33 s.

Good Luck

You might just as well try to fish standing on a barrel. The 35 and 42 would absolutely throw you off the bridge laying side too in any thing bigger that 3-5ft seas. Point them into it an run and not much will stay with them.

I had a buddy with a 32 Hat. He swapped out the 350 gas engines and dropped 3116 s 350hp Cat s in her. The boat would run away from my 16 7 whaler with the old 85hp on it and it would do 42mph. By the time he got it proped right he had to go back and install troll valves on the trans. At idle with one engine the boat moved at 6-7kts. Nice boat, but it doesn t have the guts a 31 bert has built into the hull and thats saying something because Hats are built like tanks. Really nothing has ever matched a 31 for shear heft to the hull.

The 42 Bertram put the B in battlewagon. The 35 Bertram with it s small keel and 18 degree deadrise does not rock and roll like the 33 s and the 28 s. Bertram made 3 styles in the 33 line. The 33 Sedan has a taller, larger flybridge and does rock and roll. Too much weight too high. The Hats have a flat bottom compaired to the Berts. So they ride much better at anchor. If you want to burn lots gas or diesel get a Bert. But those DeepVee Bertram hulls leave the others in their wake when the seas get nasty. If you want to sit at anchor and drink beer get a bayliner. By the way a gasser 31 Bert weights less than the 28 Bert. So much for heft. Bertram s real claim to fame is they knew where to put the bulkheads. Plus Hatteras should have applied to the patent on hull blisters! If fish in is your game get a Bert and dump lots of money in it. Run the hell out of it and sell it for more than you paid.
