Hello, and welcome to Justanswer. My name is XXXXX XXXXX X will be helping you today. If you need clarification on something please post back here.

Hi Gordon,

Each boat will have it s pro s and cons. Let me give you a little back ground info on the engines first.

You state the first boat has 141 s, Volvo did not make a 141, never heard of it. My volvo parts (I am in the american market) software which has all motors even not in the american market does not list a 141. They did however make a 131, so you might have a misprint. I will write this as if you had 131 s, as that is much more likely what you have.

The 131 is also a very common engine.

The Volvo AQ131 (full model number) is based on the old Volvo B23 automotive engines. They are 2.3 liters of displacement, 4 cylinder, and make 130HP with a top RPM of 5200.

They are good engines. Parts are easy to find and readily available. But most parts are also very expensive for that engine. A distributor cap alone is $80 US dollars. In the event that you would ever need a full engine for that boat. B23 engines have not been cast for quite some time now, and get harder to find every year. Also, with twin engines, you will have twice the expense of maintenence, and it will add up very quickly on any boat with twin engines.

The AQ205 is based on the General Motors 4.3 block. The AQ205 is 4.3 liters of displacement, 6 cylinder (not sure why H20TECH said 8), and make 190HP with a top RPM of 4600.

They are also good engines. From a machinists point of view, they are not machined as tightly as a Volvo engine, but from a functionality point of view, they are just fine. The 4.3 has been around for a long, long time. They are still cast today if you ever needed a brand new one. Parts are just as easy to find, and they are still expensive, but not as bad as the AQ131.

Based on what you tell me you are looking for, for performance, I can t say I would recommend either boat. And here is why.

1. Cruising — Either boat will do fine. However, the Benetau with the single engine will get better fuel economy.

2. Water ski — Neither boat. A 29 footer with a 4.3 simply won t have the power to rip a skier out of the water quickly. The skiier will tear his shoulders apart getting dragged through the water while the boat builds up enough speed to allow the ski s to plane out.

The boat would have to be a 19-22ish if a 4.3 was the engine. For a 29 foot boat, you would need a 350 Mag with 300+ horsepower minimum if you wanted to ski behind it.

The 26 footer with twin engines will do this a bit better. It is more overall horsepower in a smaller boat.

However, it is next to impossible to ski behind any boat with twin engines. Twin engine boats throw up a center wake behind it. The water would be much to rough to ski on. To ski you need a nice flat wake behind the boat. You would have to have a very, very experienced skiier to get up on the water with a boat that throws a center wake. The twin engine boat would be fun to tow a tuber with, but not a skier or wakeboarder.

3 — Almost flat out. The nod goes to the Fairline, all you have to do is look at the numbers. 260 total HP(130×2) in a 26 foot boat, vs 190HP in a 29 foot boat.

Honestly Gordon I would keep looking. Neither of these boats will make you all that happy performance wise. If you want the best of all worlds. Find a boat that is in that size range that uses a single V8 engine. If either boat had a single 5.7 that would be ideal. The 5.7 engines start off at 260 HP and go up from there, depending on the make and model of the engine.

If I missed anything or misinterpreted anything just let me know. Good luck with your boat hunting!
