Is A Bayliner Any Good?

A common statement I have heard from a few people looking to purchase a boat is, “I don’t think I want to purchase a Bayliner because I have been told they are unreliable and are known to have a bad reputation within the boating world”.

The marine industry, like any other, has had to create and recreate themselves to keep up with the needs of the consumer.  In the ‘80’s we didn’t sell Bayliners because we felt that the product line had some improvements to make.  We sell Bayliner’s today because we have seen and are very proud of the boats that are being manufactured.

The following are a few reasons for the confidence we have in Bayliner.

1)    Bayliner has no problem admitting that in the past (approximately in the 80’s) they did create a bad reputation for themselves. They admit this because they know that the first step to bettering the company is to see where they went wrong, what they can improve, and how to reestablish a better name for themselves.

2)    They have won several awards, one for the past four years from the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) for maintaining excellence in customer satisfaction.

3)    Bayliner’s 175 runabout has been the best-selling fiberglass boat for nearly 10 years.  It is comfortable, spacious, comes with a variety of options, including the newly introduced swim platform, and is affordable for families.

4)    Bayliner is owned by Brunswick, a company that owns and makes Brunswick pool tables, SEA-RAY boats, Mercury engines and many more products that consumers enjoy.

The following is from Boattest.com, Captain’s Report by Captain Steve.  “Bayliner has built its reputation by offering good boats for a low price. It is able to achieve the low-price point with efficient manufacturing, eliminating the frills, closely monitoring the hardware that is put aboard, avoiding some interior fiberglass liners and otherwise not lavishing money on amenities that many people will never use or appreciate. That is why it has an extensive option list, so consumers can pick and chose just the add-ons needed, and not waste money on things not wanted.

Over the years that has proved to be a winning strategy and the brand is probably held in higher regard today than ever before.”

His comments were aimed at the 175 BR.  The following was said about last year’s 335 Cruiser by Lenny Rudow of boats.com, “Bayliners are not known for being the fanciest boats in the world. But in today’s economy where it’s tough enough to make a house payment, let alone your college tuition payments or other expenses, a boat like this, well it gives you a lot more LOA for the dollar spent. So if you’re looking for a boat that’s in the $100-150,000USD range, the 335SB is definitely one you want to look at”.

Both descriptions sum up accurately what a Bayliner is about.  Bayliner is a boat line that offers dependability and affordability allowing you and your family a chance to enjoy boating.
