Maybe run for a while on the muffs at the house to see what problems crop up. Water pump impeller won’t be challenged on the flush muffs so keep that in mind. Do you have a buddy local that can help you? Maybe even buddy boat together first couple of times out. Make sure to buy Sea Tow or Towboat US before you head out. Not trying to be presumptive, but also consider a CG aux boating class, it’s a great way to meet other folks in the boating area as well. Make sure your halon fire ex is current and also have a port. Extinguisher and all of the standard safety equipment.

Good luck and welcome!

Thanks for the welcome and for the advice, I can use all the advice that can be thrown my way.

The boat has been out of water for some time but has been maintained along the way, including weatherizing. The previous owner was fanatical about the mechanics of the boat and I have had it looked over by a local guy who has been around boats for longer than I have been alive. He also said to run it on the muffs for a while for any abnormalities and that is going to be done (possibly) tomorrow.

I live in the Finger Lakes District of New York State and am trying to get a CG Course. Believe it or not, they are few and far between in my area. I am hoping that some of the people at the Marina I intend Slipping her at might be able to point me in the right direction with courses.

Trust me, I will be taking the local guy out with me when I first put her in the water (hopefully in two weeks time) and have him run me through the workings of everything and then Buddy Boat with him and another guy for the first few times after that.

In so far as the Safety Equipment is concerned, it appears to be all new — life vests, floatation pads and fire extinguisher, although I will replace the fire extinguisher with a new one and am looking at getting two new vests for my wife and I.

Point taken and that is being done, in an indirect sort of way, but by someone who knows what they are listening to and looking at. In the meantime, I am cleaning the hull and deck down and (trying) to prepare the old bottom paint for repainting, while my wife is in the Cabin area tidying that up.
